Presentation

The Association Française de Zootechnie (French Association for Animal Production) is a French association of animal production specialists from industry, trade organisations, research, education and public administration.

Its objectives are:

  • to help with the dissemination and application of knowledge related to farm animals
  • to participate in public debates concerning animal productions.
Its activities: The AFZ was founded in 1949 at the Institut National Agronomique (now AgroParisTech) by Professor André Max Leroy. Professor Julien Coléou, head of the Department of Animal Sciences of INA, was president from 1985 to 1992. Claude Béranger, Head of Research at INRA, was president from 1992 to 2000. Since 2000, AFZ's president is Professor Daniel Sauvant, from AgroParisTech.
