Services

The French Feed Database manages more than a million data of chemical composition and nutritional values on more than 2000 feed materials. Thanks to this database, we offer a wide range of services:

Consultancy in animal productions

The French Feed Database has been involved in many projects concerning the sectors of animal productions, for both private and public organisations. Here are some examples of our past works:
  • Project coordination and data management for the INRA-AFZ tables of composition and nutritive values of feed materials. 1996-2004.
  • Study on the perception of an animal product by French consumers (2003). In association with Cereopa for a private customer.
  • Study on the variability of inclusion rates of an additive (2002). In association with Cereopa for a private customer.
  • Co-author (with ADAS) of an Evaluation of the feasibility of a positive list of authorised feed materials, a report for the European Commission, 2001-2002 (download PDF).
  • Technical and scientific audit of a private experimental research station (2000-2001). In association with Cereopa.
  • Coordination and research for the programme Adjustment of amino acid supply to pig requirements through the prediction and determination of the digestive availability of amino acids of raw materials. A joint programme of INRA, ITCF, ADISSEO, AJINOMOTO EUROLYSINE and AGRIBRANDS. 1996-1998
  • Technical and scientific coordination of the European Concerted Action Harmonization of feed information and achievement of its appropriate availibility throughout the EC. 1995-1998.
  • Specifications for the identification and characterisation of raw materials. 1991-1995. Study for the Fonds SYPRAM
  • Evaluation of pesticide content in feedstuffs. 1991-1994. ITCF study carried for the Fonds SYPRAM

Data sheets and data files

We can search our database and the scientific literature to create monographs about feed materials, forages, nutritional parameters and any topic relevant to feed quality. Here are several questions that we answered in the past years for our customers:

  • Variability of corn gluten feed
  • The cotton and its byproducts in animal feeding
  • Predicting the lysine content of field peas
  • Nutritional value of Canadian lentils
  • Nutritional value of the whole palm kernel
  • Potassium content of alfalfa
  • Amylose, amylopectin, pentosans and beta-glucans in French cereals
  • Wheat milling byproducts: composition and characterization
  • Relationship between dry matter and sugar content in molasses
  • Predicting the gross energy of beet pulp

Software and web development

The French Feed Database can help businesses and organisations to develop software, databases and web services related to feed quality and feed data management.

Software development

We develop Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access customised software and databases. In addition to our own database, we developed the following applications:

  • Stand-alone io-7 feed database
  • Interface and database for Perfagro (farm optimization software created by Cereopa)
  • Database of experimental data for a private research station
  • Laboratory database for Qualimat
  • Automated calculator for a feed additives company.

Other information technology services

  • Coordination of software and web development by third parties: we participated in the design of the software tools Evapig (2008) and AmiPig (2001)
  • Web development: we created and currently maintain the following websites  www.zootechnie.fr, www.cereopa.fr, www.qualimat.org, www.feedbase.com
  • Training courses: Information search, Visual Basic for Applications (Access, Excel) for beginners

Communication tools

We can create communication tools such as Powerpoint tutorials (see the EvaPig tutorial here) and scientific, technical and artistic illustrations (still images and animations) using 3D modelling software (EvaPig mascot, cover of the scientific journal INRA Productions Animales).
